Larson's Workers' Compensation Law School Casebook

Larson, Workers' Compensation Law: Cases, Materials and Text (Third Edition, Matthew Bender & Company, 2000) (approx. 850 pages), by Lex K. Larson and Arthur Larson, late James B. Duke Professor of Law, Duke University School of Law.

The new Third Edition is about to be published and will be available for teaching in the Fall of 2000. This new edition enhance the book's treatment of current issues while preserving its excellent treatment of the basics. It now includes new or expanded treatments of:

- The trend towards increasing use of mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution in workers' compensation cases.
- Carpal tunnel syndrome and other repetitive motion injuries.
- Stress, or "mental-mental" cases.
- The interaction of workers' compensation with the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990 and similar state laws.
- The interaction of workers' compensation with unemployment compensation laws, Social Security disability, and employment discrimination laws including sexual harassment.
- The emergence, beginning in the late 1980's, of legislation primarily designed to curb increases in employer costs, sparked by spiraling costs of medical care, increased number and length of contested agency proceedings, greater attorney involvement, and the perception of widespread claimant fraud.
